Choosing a new floor isn’t easy. With so many options to choose from, making a final decision can often feel overwhelming and stressful.
Laminate flooring is becoming an increasingly popular choice among homeowners due to its authentic look, durability, and many practical advantages at good value for money.
- Extremely strong and durable
Laminate flooring is known to be both strong and durable, making it an ideal flooring solution for high traffic areas of the home. While laminate flooring can feel hard underfoot, most installations include a resilient foam underlayment that gives the flooring a slightly springy feeling for heightened underfoot comfort. Whilst looking and feeling the part, laminate flooring is also suitable for everyday wear and tear.
The laminate floors are able to cope with scratches, playing kids, stiletto heels, the shock of heavy, falling objects and even scorch marks. Modern laminate floors are so hardwearing that these days they are increasingly fitted in public places with high footfall, such as shops and airports.
You also don’t need to worry about spilling water or other liquids: simply mop up the fluid as quickly as possible and it won’t have time to penetrate into the planks. Worried about moving your furniture because you are afraid of discolouration? Even that is unnecessary: the protective layer means that Quick-Step floors keep their original color year after year even when exposed to sunlight.

For this reason, laminate flooring is a popular choice across multiple rooms of the home. Stylish yet practical, laminate flooring is versatile enough to work in any interior.
- Suitable for every room
Laminate floors are extremely versatile and suitable for every room of the home, including busy areas where practicality is essential. Perfectly functional and attractive, laminate flooring is ideal for hallways, landings, and kitchens – working well alongside multiple interiors and room sizes.
Laminate floors can be used in every room. Even for kitchens and bathrooms there are waterproof floors with extra protection. The anti-static surface and the seamless click system prevent dust and dirt from collecting on or between the planks, which is an ideal feature for childrens’ rooms. You can even cover a complete staircase using laminate.

Laminate flooring is an ideal choice for every room of the home. However, it is important to note that some rooms may be less suitable for laminate flooring than others, especially when it comes to rooms sceptical to moisture.
- Easy maintenance
As well as its attractiveness, laminate flooring is also easy to maintain and care for. Dirt cannot penetrate the wood, meaning a regular clean with a dry or lightly dampened fibre cloth is all that’s needed to keep your floor in fresh condition. Unlike many other flooring alternatives, you don’t need to sand, scrub or oil laminate floors.
Laminate floors are easy to clean with a vacuum or broom. Mop with a slightly damp mop, or better yet, use laminate floor cleaner. No floor waxing is ever necessary for laminate floors. Avoid excessive water when mopping, which can seep into the seams between boards, causing swelling. Laminate flooring will not tolerate standing pools of water, which often appear in bathrooms, kitchens, and laundry rooms.
Laminate flooring has a wear layer that protects the photographic layer underneath and makes it somewhat resistant to scratches and dents, and very resistant to stains. Some manufacturers even issue very generous 10+ year warranties on the wear layer itself. If you do get a stain, it is usually easy to clean off.

However, it is important to note that laminate flooring is not designed to tolerate long-standing pools of water, which are most likely to occur in bathrooms and kitchens. Therefore, for rooms of the home with heavy moisture, an impervious surface such a vinyl or porcelain tile is more sufficient.
- No stress installation
Amongst its other benefits, laminate flooring is very quick and easy to install. Virtually all of today’s laminate floors use a ‘click and lock’ system; allowing all of the planks to fit together easily like a jigsaw puzzle.
Laminate flooring is typically installed as a “floating floor”—the planks are interlocking at the edges, forming a solid mat that simply lies on the underlayment, without any glue-down required. Installation is a simple matter of laying a foam underlayment, then joining rows of planks edge-to-edge across the floor. A professional crew can lay down a room in an hour or so, and a DIYer can do it in an afternoon.

All of these qualities mean laminate flooring is quick and easy to remove too – as the planks can be taken up quickly should you need to replace or change your flooring.
- Appearance
Laminate flooring is a great replicate of a real timber floor; successfully simulating both its texture and unique characteristics. With so many variations to choose from, you can personalise your home by adding character and personality to it at a smaller cost than real wood flooring.
Laminate flooring can faithfully reproduce the look of wood, stone, and other natural materials—at least at a distance. Unlike real hardwood, which comes with many imperfect pieces that need to be discarded or trimmed, there are no defects in laminate flooring. Every board is of consistent quality and appearance. Deep embossing adds to the illusion of wood grain, as well.
